Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Applied Ergonomics Society
Collaboration offers access to wider knowledgebase and improved information transfer.
 
The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) has signed a collaboration memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Applied Ergonomics Society (AES) creating a formal working relationship between the two organizations. The agreement will allow members from both societies, representing the spectrum of human factors and ergonomics (HF/E) professionals, to connect via networking opportunities and formally open lines of communications between each organization’s members that could spur identification of knowledge voids and improve translation and adoption of new knowledge. 
 
HFES and AES share common goals to advance HF/E knowledge, expand the reach and awareness of the HF/E discipline, and ultimately improve human-systems interactions. HFES members will be able to further engage with AES’ members, who use their expertise to apply research findings for successful implementation within workplace settings. 
 
We are looking forward to our relationship with AES and all this partnership will bring to our membership and the future of human-systems interactions. The collaboration between our societies will not only bring to HFES an improved understanding of industry’s HF/E needs, it will ultimately advance our profession and strengthen the positive impact of the HF/E discipline on work, society and the world.
 
The MOU includes the opportunity for each Society to present at the other’s annual events. HFES and AES will also have the potential to sponsor additional educational activities, develop white papers and position statements, create forums to discuss research topics, and more. The organizations will begin cross-referencing news and information relevant to both their memberships. The agreement allows the Societies to continue discussions on how they can further expand access for both organizations in the future. 
 
HFES would like to thank the Representatives & Liaisons Committee, chaired by Carolyn Sommerich, for their work in spearheading this MOU together with Tom Albin and Gary Allread, who are members of HFES and AES. The committee, which coordinates interactions between the Society and nongovernmental organizations, primarily professional societies, was instrumental in facilitating discussions and outlining the terms of the MOU.
