Board on Human-Systems Integration: Call for Experts
Posted March 24, 2025
The Board on Human-Systems Integration (BOHSI), a standing board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, is seeking nominations for new members.
Established in 1980, BOHSI has a long history of providing stakeholders with objective, evidence-based advice concerning relationships between systems of individuals, organizations, and technology. BOHSI provides expert guidance on the research needed to expand the scientific and technical bases for designing technology that supports critical users' needs, while incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into the future of work.
OHSI expertise spans science, engineering, and industry including HSI, human factors and ergonomics, industrial-organizational psychology, and cognitive/systems engineering. Currently, BOHSI is especially seeking additional expertise in the areas of workforce modeling and personnel selection. More broadly, we also encourage nominations in the areas of artificial intelligence (including development), HSI, human factors, industrial-organizational psychology, cognitive/systems engineering, human-computer interaction, naturalistic decision-making, training, and teamwork. Our work also extends to ergonomics, universal design, and user experience.
These topics are applied to real-world challenges, such as human-AI teaming, transportation, safety, and risk management, serving federal agencies, the military, and private industry. For example, BOHSI's ongoing FAA Planning for Air Traffic Control Facility Staffing project demonstrates our continued engagement and expertise in workforce-related issues within complex systems.
The National Academies value a wide range of perspectives to strengthen the quality of our work. We carefully consider alternative viewpoints when formulating advice, convening experts with differing experience and perspectives, providing oversight, and conducting all other activities, and strive to foster an environment where all can participate fully. We welcome your suggestions for a broad range of experts to work with us.
We invite you to submit your suggestions by April 14, 2025 AT 11:59 PM.
