Two More Innovative FPE Programs Inviting Your Support
Posted September 12, 2022
The Foundation for Professional Ergonomics continues to provide groundbreaking programming with two more initiatives for promoting professionalism in Human Factors/Ergonomics practice worldwide.
Webinars on Core Topics for HF/E Practice: Many professionals involved in HF/E practice lack training in specific parts of the field’s core curriculum – or may need a refresher on these topics. BCPE has defined the core curriculum, which is widely accepted by university degree programs, and which serves as the foundation for professional certification. FPE is developing short courses and webinars to review key topics in ergonomics practice, including BCPE certification, statistical data analysis, controls and displays, job design and analysis, human-computer interaction, product design and user experience, and others as needed. Short courses and webinars are delivered live and then recorded for posting on websites for viewing at no cost or for a nominal fee.
Short Course – Overview of Professional Certification in HF/E: At the past several Applied Ergonomics Conferences (AEC), FPE has offered a short course to familiarize participants with the core topics for professional certification, with emphasis on the BCPE process. The small size of the review class makes it possible to focus the discussion to the audience's needs by answering specific questions and practicing human factors problem solving scenarios. Attendees of past classes have included individuals with educational backgrounds in occupational and physical therapy, safety, and human factors engineering. The diverse background of attendees demonstrates that the profession remains one in which some individuals enter via higher education in human factors, while others enter from other professions. FPE and BCPE commend AEC for offering this unique class. AEC feels that it is important to encourage professionalism through the credentialing process. This short course is also available for a fee as an online webinar via the IISE website.
FPE works closely with the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) and the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE), which allows us to coordinate and collaborate on such projects of mutual interest and value.
These projects were made possible through contributions by HF/E professionals who provided their time, expertise, and financial donations. If you would like to support these or other FPE projects, visit www.ergofoundation.org.
