All Full Members and Fellows of the Society in good standing, including Emeritus Members and Emeritus Fellows, are eligible for nomination and election.  Associate, Affiliate, Corresponding, Early-Career Professional, and Student Affiliate members are not Full members and therefore cannot nominate or vote.  To be eligible for nomination to any office of the Society, an individual must be able to discharge the duties of that office, as determined by the Nominations and Elections Committee.  Additional requirements:

  • Each nominee for President-Elect must have been a Full member of HFES for five (5) years and must have served previously on the Executive Council, or served as a Division Chair, or served as Chair of the Annual Meeting Technical Program Committee
  • Each nominee for Secretary-Treasurer-Elect must have been a Full member of HFES for five (5) years and must have served HFES previously in an elected position or other leadership role, or as an appointed member of an Executive Council committee (e.g., Finance and Budget Committee)
  • Each nominee for Executive Council Member-at-Large must have been a Full member of HFES for at least three (3) years and must have served HFES in an elected position or other leadership role, or as an appointed member of an Executive Council committee (e.g.  Finance and Budget Committee)

No individual may hold more than one elective office concurrently.  The incumbent Immediate Past President, Immediate Past Secretary-Treasurer, and both At-Large Members of the Executive Council in the final year of their term are eligible to stand in nomination for another office.  Elected service limits:

  • Each officer position on the Executive Council is limited to two-lifetime terms
  • No individual may serve as a member of the Executive Council in any combination of positions for more than 12 years
  • No individual may serve consecutive terms in the same office on the Executive Council
  • A minimum one-year break is required before an individual may seek an office to which they were previously elected
