The Communications Technical Group (CTG) is focused on advancing human-centered research and design of products, services, systems, networks, and technologies that facilitate communications. Research topics include communications-related software and hardware-based user interfaces, input and output methods, communication within and via augmented and virtual environments, and infrastructure concerns, such as codecs and bandwidth, operations software, product documentation, and training. Intersecting topics also addressed include data privacy, cross-platform interoperability, accessibility, and universal/inclusive design. Researchers work with a wide range of technologies, including telecommunications services and interactive voice applications, multimedia information and communications technologies, interactive TV, videoconferencing, extended reality, and collaborative / cooperative / teaming applications across a variety of consumer, business, military, and extreme environment contexts.
All officers serve one-year terms (calendar year). The Technical Group Vice Chair and Technical Group Vice Program Chair automatically become Chairs of the respective positions after one calendar year and a call for nominations is issued each fall for new Vice Chairs.
