The Sustainability Technical Group (SUSTG) is a dynamic and collaborative forum that aims to promote the application of human factors and ergonomics principles to sustainability systems. The group's primary objective is to foster a community of researchers, faculty, practitioners, and students who can share information, research methods, and ideas on human-centered sustainable design. Additionally, the group seeks to expand educational curricula on human factors and ergonomics, promote joint activities, and serve as a liaison between HFES and other professional and governmental organizations on sustainability matters.
The group covers a wide range of topics related to sustainability, including sustainability in product design, recycling and waste management, education, electric vehicle charging systems, manufacturing and supply chains, green economy, water resources, the use of AI, and climate resilience.
By bringing together experts from different fields, the group aims to explore innovative and effective solutions to the complex sustainability challenges faced by humans today. This TGs charter directly ties into the sustainable developments’ goals support through ten of the seventeen UN SDGs.
All officers serve one-year terms (calendar year). The Technical Group Vice Chair and Technical Group Vice Program Chair automatically become Chairs of the respective positions after one calendar year and a call for nominations is issued each fall for new Vice Chairs.
