Situation Awareness Measurement

The purpose of this book is to provide a detailed guide on how to successfully measure situation awareness (SA) in laboratories and simulations, as well as many applied settings. Following an overview of the pros and cons of different measurement approaches, it includes step-by-step instructions for implementing the Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique (SAGAT). Details on creating good SAGAT queries for your domain are provided, plus an easy-to-use database of existing queries that have been developed for many common areas of interest, such as aviation, driving, power systems, military, and health care. The book answers many frequently asked questions about SA measurement. It provides a detailed example of applying SAGAT to an air traffi c control study, as well as studies to measure shared situation awareness and team situation awareness in a military setting.

The book is appropriate for students, researchers, and professionals in any fi eld who want to assess the SA of people involved in making dynamic decisions in complex situations. The examples illustrate key ideas and make the information relatable, no matter your field of application.
